Believe In Flukes And Create Them For Others

Find out more about how to become The Potentiator

Hi, this is Mike Lipkin and welcome to this breakthrough moment.

We all live with the ever-present potential for damage, disaster and self-destruction. But thinking too vividly about it can become paralyzing. At any moment, our carefully constructed edifices can shatter and crumble. Every day, we experience “near-misses” or “close-calls.” One step further or one second later may have ended in tears or even worse. It’s best not to dwell on these “almost-catastrophes” because the opposite is also true. We often ascribe our wins to our skill and diligence. The truth is we are the beneficiaries of fortunate flukes in our favour more often than we recognize. The future is always pulling us towards it.

The vast majority of us do not have real enemies. We have competitors. We have rivals. We have acquaintances that may not like us or detractors that may not endorse us. But we don’t have other people that purposely want to do us harm. However, in the absence of real enemies, people create them. Then they conjure up phantom fears. Courage may be simple common sense: other people don’t care enough to hurt you. They have their own issues to handle. That’s why they need your help. The only way to get ahead is to help others get ahead. It’s a form of benign Machiavellianism. It means nudging people into actions that will benefit them while it benefits you. At the same time, make sure that people attribute their success to the guidance that you’ve provided them. It’s called enlightened self-interest and it ensures everyone wins. When you have a great day today, it will be because of the insights and motivation from this video. I’m just saying… This is Mike Lipkin. I am the Potentiator. And I approve this message.

This is a key insight that we tend to forget. We get a lot of breaks individually and collectively but we tend to focus on flaws, dangers, perceived enemies (that’s the “news”). Creativity and indeed most types of action require a more positive mindset. Besides, it’s more fun and others appreciate it!
