Make A Powerful Promise

Hi this is Mike Lipkin and welcome to this breakthrough moment. A promise is something that you make with your mouth. It’s a declaration that assures others something will happen because you say so. It’s only as good as the person that makes it. The most trustful question we can ever ask is, “you promise?” We want to believe in the integrity of others. We want to rely on them to pull us through. We want their talent to work on our behalf. We want to be inspired and empowered in equal measure.

So don’t under-promise and over-deliver. That is a formula for mediocrity. It means you’re setting the other person’s sights low so that you can exceed them. You’re building in slack as a buffer for low performance. Simply stated, you’re playing it safe. But safe doesn’t live here anymore and it’s never coming back. There is no comfortable way to be great and there is no great way to be comfortable.

The opposite of under-promising isn’t over-promising. Over-promising is lying. It’s a dishonest attempt to win someone’s trust or support by exaggerating the benefit you can deliver to them. It’s the currency of conmen. You can only fool a smart person once. And even one time is too many. In the age of digital likes and dislikes, your reputation always precedes you. What goes on in Vegas stays on YouTube.

The opposite of under-promising is Powerful-Promising. This means making a promise that captivates others and enroll them in your cause. It is ambitious and audacious. It stretches your capacity. It pushes your envelope. You know that it’s going to take everything you have to actualize your commitment. But you also know that you will grow in direct proportion to its size. It’s nowhere near an over-promise because you know you’ll do whatever it takes to make it real. I promise you that I will cause breakthroughs with you and that’s what I’m trying to do with you right now. This is Mike Lipkin. I am the Potentiator. And I approve this message.

The Potentiator of note. The Yes man is always forcefully and passionately on point. Currently, I’m reading your book co-written with Reg Lascaris: “The power of passion, the force of flow”(fire and water). I love your presence and pizzazz.
