The billionaire and the backlash: the three actions that you must take right now

He huffed and he puffed and he blew her house down.

The apocalypse occurred. The sun rose. Life goes on.

The disenfranchised and dispossessed have entrusted the billionaire to champion their cause.

Once again, life trumps expectations. It’s like House of Cards on steroids. Truth is whatever you believe it to be. Lying is only what the opposition accuses you of doing. The polls have gone to pot.

Mr Market is shrugging off Mr Trump. After threatening to collapse, it opened flat. Even the Mexican market is down by less than 2%.

The last great white hopes lie squarely on the outsider’s beefy shoulders. If he can’t turn their life around, no-one can. He’s given them hope. He’s given the rest of us heartburn.

But like any indigestion, it will go away as reality manifests itself. It always does. As Churchill said, you can always trust Americans to do the right thing – after they’ve tried everything else.

So I’ve gone from being anxious to excited. Status Quo is never a source of opportunity unless you’re already an insider. Big Change always masquerades as Big Crisis. In the end, it shakes things up and they land exactly where they’re supposed to.

So here are Lipkin’s Three Actions that you must take right now:

1. Trust the resilience of the system. Democracy is designed to be shocked. We’ll go through momentary turbulence and then we’ll enter a new normal. Take a deep breath and carry on.

2. Reassure the people around you that they will survive. Focus on the reasons to celebrate this outcome. Go looking for the gap. Do something that declares your ability to impact your world. Like this message for a start.

3. Morph into whoever you need to become to thrive in a Post-Trump reality. Hold your principles dear but adapt your strategy to win. Be fascinated not frightened.

Here we go again. It’s time to step up and set an example…

I really like the reference to Churchill’s comment, it is very appropriate.

One statement that I’ve carried on through my entire business world has been that status quo is never an option except for the dead, and since I’m breathing I’m looking forward to change. Change is opportunity, change is hope, change is exciting, change is something I get up looking forward to every morning knowing that I’m not leading a redundant life. And change is scary, like a roller coaster. Even though you know you’re not going to die sometimes it feels like it.
