Join the Circle of Preeminence
By Mike Lipkin
Discover the Power of Ichi-go, Ichi-e
How is 2008 going for you? For me, it's been the fastest year of my career. So much is happening, with so many people, in so many time-zones, I feel like I’m being obliterated in the blur. Sound familiar? If you're like any one of the 50,000 people to whom I’ve spoken this year, you’re in a race against the clock and the clock is winning.
So what’s the silver bullet? How can you slow down long enough to breathe and focus on what’s important? How can you become someone other people seek out because you consistently deliver so much value to them? How can you create conversations that help others grow, contribute and celebrate? How can you prepare to win so you always play at your personal best? How can you get more out of every situation through the power of fascination? How can you listen in a way that magnetizes the truth to you? The answer is Ichi-go, Ichi-e. One Life, One Meeting. It’s how you build Preeminence one day, one conversation at a time.

Listen Magnetically
Ask the right question in the right way so you draw out the best from others. Read this in conjunction with the latest podcast.
Welcome to the Fall newsletter that could transform your life. I'm serious. I'm going to introduce you to the concept of magnetic listening that will enable you to hear more so you encourage others to be more by saying more. So empty your mind, and fill it with this thought:
The way you listen to others becomes their opinion of themselves. If you listen as though what you're hearing is extraordinarily valuable, you make the other person feel extraordinarily valuable. What's more, if you listen for extraordinary value, you hear it. In fact, the way you listen makes it extraordinarily valuable because you're hearing things you would not otherwise have heard. You draw insights out of others they may not even know they had. Your listening expands them, their contribution and their connection with you. It's a beautiful thing.

Breathe the Zeitgeist!
Be a part of the world. Don't be apart from the world.
Say it. Say "Zeitgeist" aloud. How does it sound? Notice what you do with your face. You smile. You feel the excitement even though you may not understand why. There's something exotic and electric to the word. That's because it's an expression of our world. Yours and mine.
"Zeit" is the German word for "Time" and "Geist" is the German word for "Spirit". So Zeitgeist literally means "Spirit of The Times". And the word "Spirit" comes from the Latin word ‘Spiritus" which means breath.
If you breathe the Zeitgeist, it means you're absorbing the spirit of the times. It means you get it. You see the bigger picture. You comprehend your context. You get the what, the why and the how of transformation. You get the pattern as the dots appear. You get it before others get it. You act before others act. You talk before others talk. You are the Go-To person when it comes to understanding today and anticipating tomorrow.

Rule #1: Create Yourself Now
Choose who you're going to be. Then consciously be yourself (but don't be self-conscious).
Here are five questions for you to answer right now. Write down your spontaneous thoughts:
- Who are you?
- How did you become who you are?
- Who do you want to be?
- How are you going to be who you want to be?

The Three Commitments that will help you achieve The Ultimate Skill.
I'm excited about this newsletter because I'm going to share with you The Three Commitments that will help you acquire the Ultimate Skill. So what's The Ultimate Skill according to Lipkin? It is to be someone who creates opportunity for others, with others; it is to be someone who expands the capacity of others to create remarkable results; it is to be someone who introduces others to new possibilities; it is to be someone who motivates others to see themselves as extraordinary; it is to be someone who shows It Can Be Done so others believe they can do it. In essence, The Ultimate Skill is to help others live at such a level that they thrive not just survive.

Remember: There is no small stuff. Everything is significant. Be proud of how far you’ve come. Have faith in how far you will go.
Live Brilliantly.
Your life is a contemporary saga. You are a walking drama. Your story is as compelling as anything Hollywood has ever produced. So see your challenges in mythic dimensions. See your crises as rites of passage taking you to the next level. And give yourself credit for the hero you’ve already become.

Trust yourself. Trust others. Trust that your world has been designed to help
you get exactly you need (not what you want).
"You can't always get what you want. But if you try sometimes, you might find, you get what you need" The Rolling Stones
Ultimately, there are only two kinds of people: those-who-trust and those-who-don't.
Those-who-trust have found an empowering answer to life's most important question: Am I living in a friendly or hostile world?

True Leaders Command The Power of Respect.
Lipkin's definition of Respect: to celebrate the potential of everyone around you to contribute to your personal growth and success; to honor every person as a fellow Keeper of The Flame; to leave every facility better than you found it; To treat the elements of your personal environment with the care and deference they deserve.
You can always tell True Leaders by the courtesy they accord to others. Irrespective of their social position, they handle the people around them like most honored guests. Everything about them radiates a sense of reverence for the other person. It's in their stance, their voice, their eyes. It's not synthetic. True Leader's respect for others spring from their inclination to look for reasons to admire the people around them.
